Benefits of Pre-Installed Hardware

At Unified Door & Hardware Group, our goal is to strategically serve the construction industry and streamline processes using our extensive knowledge and expertise. One of the ways we can help navigate the complexities of today’s world of doors and hardware is by offering cost and time savings through pre-installation services.

What is Pre-Installation?

Pre-installation is the process in which hardware such as hinges, door closers, exit devices, locks, electrified hardware, flat goods, kick plates and push plates are installed onto doors prior to shipping to the jobsite. Even elements such as glass and vision kits for window cutouts have the ability to be inserted before shipment. Since Unified serves a wide range of facilities with specific needs, the types of hardware sets used are constantly changing from job to job. This requires access to a skilled group of technicians that are fully dedicated to pre-installation. Several of our affiliated companies have set teams that specialize in these services, many with over 20 years of experience.

Benefits of Pre-Installed Hardware

There are numerous upsides to using doors with pre-installed hardware that can be of great benefit to contractors, developers and other key stakeholders. We will go into each of these in detail.

Saves Time to Meet Quick Deadlines

One advantage of pre-installation is that the process becomes significantly expedited, which can help you save time and effectively meet deadlines. If the hardware comes separate from the door, it has to be sorted on site and positioned in the field, an undertaking that can be tedious and error-prone. On the other hand, if the hardware is already in place prior to arriving at the jobsite, the time to swing the door is significantly reduced. Not only does this result in a cost savings by reducing field installation work, it also accelerates the entire construction process. This can be especially favorable to contractors who are on a tight timeline and would prefer to receive a finished product. Schools and universities that have a short window in the summer to complete projects benefit greatly from this type of service.

Easier to Identify & Fix Product Defects

Another positive aspect of pre-installation is that it allows UDHG to catch manufacturing or product defects and fix them prior to delivering materials. Once the material gets put out in the field, it can be increasingly difficult to document and identify the source of the error. With pre-installation, we can track down exactly when and where the product was damaged and make repairs quickly and accurately. We also have strong relationships with our manufacturers which allow us to easily manage and address any potential oversight. This helps avoid costly mistakes that can affect both budgets and project timelines.

Quality of Finished Good Is Maintained

Maintaining quality is very important to UDHG, which is why we package a maximum of 7 doors on a skid and fit approximately 7 skids on a truck depending on its size. Each door is carefully packaged with Styrofoam and shrink wrap so the hardware will not rub against each other and become scratched or damaged. The items can then be loaded directly into the building on the jobsite for fast and efficient installation.

Contributes to LEED Construction

The pre-installation process also contributes to Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) construction. An important part of our overall mission is to approach construction in a way that is environmentally responsible while using resources efficiently. The pre-installation process contributes to LEED construction, since we recycle packaging directly at our shop location, eliminating some jobsite waste.

Is Pre-Installation an Expensive Route?

While the unmistakable benefits of pre-installation may give the impression of a costly service, this is not necessarily the case. The amount of time and labor it takes for carpenters to install door hardware in the field is drastically cut down, resulting in a cost savings on the backend. The cumbersome task of troubleshooting, problem solving and accounting for missing pieces is essentially eliminated, therefore reducing the amount of on-site work. However, many of our affiliates are part of the Carpenters Union, so we are still able to accommodate both Union and non-Union workers depending on what your job calls for.

Overall, pre-installed hardware has many advantages that can provide a hassle-free jobsite installation. We can supply you with the right door according to your individual needs per floor or project, all while saving you time, avoiding error, and conserving resources. Please reach out to us if you have any questions about pre-installation or would like to inquire about using our services for your next project.

6 Benefits of Sourcing Doors & Hardware from an Enterprise ...

Amidst the hustle and bustle of multiple construction projects, it's easy to overlook the significance of doors, frames, and door hardware. However, the value that comes from purchasing from an Enterprise Account Specialist is truly remarkable. Here are 6 key benefits you might be missing:

Goto CORNER to know more.

Standardization of Material

Extensive effort has been dedicated to ensuring that the door materials align with your security, functionality, aesthetic, quality, and code requirements. However, when sourcing materials from a local door distributor for individual projects, these essential standards are often overlooked. This is especially evident in retail construction projects with tight timelines, where traditional factory ordering may not be feasible. As a result, you may end up with whatever is readily available on the distributor's shelves, which may not meet the specified standards.

Value:  Collaborating on a stocking agreement with a door distributor specializing in Enterprise Accounts ensures that the materials supplied for every project adhere to the established benchmarks for security, functionality, appearance, quality, and compliance with building codes.

Reduced Project Costs

By consolidating all construction projects, we have the leverage to negotiate with our door, door frame, and hardware manufacturers for bulk quantities, allowing us to offer substantial savings to our customers. This approach contrasts significantly with the traditional method of purchasing each project separately.

Value: An Enterprise Account Specialist in door distribution has the ability to leverage negotiation based on a prototypical project build schedule, ultimately resulting in cost savings per project.

Minimized Construction Delays

How great would it be to know that all the door materials are sitting in a warehouse waiting for you to need them?  That is exactly how an Enterprise Account Stocking Agreement works.  Your prototypical materials will be stocked instead of factory ordered.  Project materials or change orders will ship from inventory instead of being subject to extended factory lead-times.  Your door materials will ship in days, not weeks.

Value:You will not have to worry about delays, security issues, or the doors holding up the other trades.  Your doors, frames, and door hardware will be on site when they are needed.

Industry and Project Expertise

A specialized Enterprise Account Specialist in door distribution has the expertise to tailor your standard materials to perfectly align with your specific requirements and objectives. This includes offering recommendations on materials that best suit your needs in terms of functionality, cost-effectiveness, aesthetics, security, and compliance with building codes. Collaborating closely with the Architect, they can assist in drafting specifications and hardware schedules.

Dedicated Account Teams are assigned to individual projects, ensuring a deep understanding of your account's unique needs and materials. This team is committed to upholding the established product standards and specifications as set by the Architect and your corporate construction team. The expertise of the door industry is seamlessly integrated into the planning and execution of each project, guaranteeing a tailored approach that meets your project's demands.

Value: After the standard materials have been established, a dedicated accounts team will ensure that the standards are followed and modified as required to meet your needs.

Warranty Management

Warranties can be a complex process without an Enterprise Account Vendor.  If a piece of hardware fails, you must contact the General Contractor, who must contact the local distributor who supplied the product, who then contacts the factory, who then sends out a replacement part.  An Enterprise Account Agreement simplifies the process and minimizes downtime.

Value: One touch warranty management on materials with an Enterprise Account Agreement.

Custom Materials

Your doors do not have to be boring. They can be a part of your brand.  Imagine a custom color, door design, hardware that incorporates a logo, or overall design that fits the design aesthetic.  It is all available, but long lead-time items.  Purchasing from a local distributor would create problems, but with an Enterprise Account Stocking Agreement, the factory lead-time does not matter as it will become stock material.  This represents a terrific opportunity to have your doors support your brand message.

Value: Custom designed materials specific for your projects that can ship in days not months.

Allow our Enterprise Account team to assist in cutting costs and mitigating construction delays. With our industry knowledge, dedicated teams, and efficient warranty management, we guarantee a seamless project execution.
