I will need to cut those profiles into the length I need. I have got a bandsaw I use for steel, I assume I can use that - but do I need the specific "band blades" (or what is it called in english) for aluminium? Or will the ones I have (with a fairly high tooth count as I cut mostly thin sections) suffice?
Or, as I am most likely to do so again and more often in the future, Should I buy a circular saw, and if so, please school me on those and on the saw blades I need for those... (rpm, tooth type and count, ...)
thanks in advance... The band saw with the steel blades and high tooth count will work great but not go as fast as you could with another setup.
If you are not worried about speed then go with it.
You will want to grease or wax the blade ( grease I think is better but I use wax because I don't like the mess) or the high tooth count blade will get gummed up with the aluminum shavings
Bob I wouldn't hesitate to cut aluminum on a band saw machine. Use a lubricant at fast speed. WD40 can work too to cool the blade. Tooth pitch may vary for the thickness of the material you are cutting. At least 3 teeth engaged in a cut and a maximum of 24 teeth engaged in a cut to get the best TPI. Try checking sawbladedotcom . 201 Series blade cuts well on mild steels. A wood cutting blade /raker set works well in cutting aluminum. any wood working tools like a table saw ,miter saw skill saw will work just fine I cut way more alum. on my tools than wood if you have a wood blade for your band saw it will work better then the steel blade extruded alum. is soft and gummy all blades should be either wax,or soap works well. just make sure to were glasses and ear plugs it is loud and the chips hurt when they stick to your face! no need to run blade backwards that is only for really thin alum. now get out and make something cool!
