The 5 Best Floor Lamps of 2024 | Reviews by Wirecutter

Choosing the Right Task Lighting

If you're in pursuit of more details, feel free to browse our website.

The Threshold Cantilever Floor Lamp caught our attention with its mid-century modern flair and flexible swivel head. However, adjusting the cantilever arm proved challenging due to the small dial design. This lamp might serve perfectly as a bedside fixture where frequent adjustments are unnecessary.

Among the lamps tested, the George Kovacs P303-2 LED Floor Lamp stood out as the most compact. Sporting a modern chrome finish and a built-in 518-lumen LED array, it's ideal for small living spaces, especially those with lower ceilings, though it may not be sufficient for an average-sized living room.

The ADS360 Crane LED Floor Lamp would rank highly if we were seeking a light primarily for reading. Its compact structure and easily adjustable features—combined with a four-way LED touch dimmer—produce a warm glow that's perfect for reading. Essentially, it's more of an elevated task light than a traditional floor lamp.

Examining Console Floor Lamps

The sleek IKEA Aläng initially appears to be a great bargain, but upon assembly, it becomes clear that its build lacks stability and robustness. Its flimsy base and thin center tubes do not inspire confidence, and only a cheap-looking twist-lock mechanism keeps the lamp secure at its desired height. Compared to our other IKEA selection, which costs the same, Aläng falls short in overall performance.

While the IKEA Milleryr was a reasonably priced floor lamp, its discontinuation leaves users seeking alternatives. Though we appreciated the adjustable height, the slender pole that supports this feature felt inadequate. Additionally, the shade's material lacked durability, resulting in a design that feels lackluster.

Tripod Lamps: Stability and Style

The Monique Tripod Floor Lamp (now called the Sarim) was previously our top choice, being lightweight and easy to assemble. However, its delicate legs, the narrowest gauge we encountered, gave a flimsy impression. Nonetheless, we valued its clever cord management system, which conceals the cord within a leg.

The SH Lighting F-SG Adjustable Tripod Floor Lamp impressed with its adjustable height and sleek design but faltered due to its top-heavy structure, making it unstable and prone to tipping. Careful placement is required to avoid hazards, particularly in a home with children or pets.

An advantage of the Brightech Emma LED Tripod Floor Lamp is that it comes with a 60-watt equivalent LED bulb, making it a convenient addition. Although easy to assemble, its lightweight wooden legs resulted in notable instability during testing. The included lampshade, while innovative, required meticulous assembly that could pose challenges for users.

The Article Black Treo Metal Fabric Floor Lamp boasts solid metal construction and a stylish goth aesthetic, perfectly fitting larger spaces without dominating the décor. Despite its standing as a tip-resistant lamp, it only supports up to a modest 40-watt maximum output.

From Target, the Project 62 Ellis Tripod Floor Lamp offers an appealing antique-brass finish, reasonable pricing, and a design accommodating to various décors. Unfortunately, it also appears to have been discontinued.

Another interesting option is the Threshold Oak Wood Tripod Floor Lamp from Target, showcasing a classic retro style. Sadly, availability issues prevent us from recommending it as a top contender.

Despite its positive online ratings, the Norine 61" Tripod Floor Lamp disappointed us with quality concerns; its poorly threaded connectors made assembly frustrating and gave it an unstable appearance.

We had previously endorsed the Lepower Wood Tripod Floor Lamp, but recent tests revealed a decline in craftsmanship, with breakage occurring at the shade attachment points.

Exploring Tree Floor Lamps

The Aaron Aged Brass 3-Light Floor Lamp remains a budget-friendly option among tree-style lamps, offering stability and multiple light outputs, albeit with lower 40-watt per shade output. While it delivers functionality, its design lacks the high-end feel we prefer.

Similar in function, the Luken Brushed Nickel Adjustable 3-Light Tree Floor Lamp has a unique design but raises concerns about the looseness of its hinges over time.

Very similar to the Aaron model, the Brightech Jacob Floor Lamp carries an antique-brass finish and includes three budget LED bulbs, all backed by a generous warranty.

The Wrought Studio Nahant 67" Tree Floor Lamp, standing at nearly 67 inches, provides a sturdy and quality feel, although its retro design caters to specific interior styles, requiring careful consideration for placement.

Arc Floor Lamps: Combining Function and Aesthetics

A standout, the Light Society SoHo Modern Nickel Arc Floor Lamp features a sturdy marble base for unmatched stability, but assembly can be a serious test of patience due to its complex build.

Contrastingly, the LumiSource Salon Floor Lamp suffered from quality concerns, including poorly attached shades and an unsteady metal arm, making it less desirable.

The CB2 Big Dipper Arc Brushed-Nickel Floor Lamp addresses some issues with the previous models but still features a base that could use improvement in terms of stability, despite offering improved brightness.

Rod Floor Lamps: Minimalist Solutions

For those in search of minimalist lighting, the Orren Ellis Tregenna 60" LED Floor Lamp presents a nearly invisible design when switched off. Nonetheless, users may find it challenging to utilize the dimmer, which detracts from its overall appeal.
