Top 5 Reasons for Operator Training | John Deere US

  1. Improve safety on every jobsite.

Safe operating procedures are paramount when it comes to getting the job done. While John Deere machines are built with your safety and comfort in mind, whether heavy equipment is used safely ultimately falls on the shoulders of equipment operators.

That's why every operator training session not only teaches participants how to use John Deere machines, but how to use them safely — directly from the seats of dozers, excavators, and more. Throughout our hands-on operator training sessions, participants learn from John Deere product experts about how to properly use equipment and perform essential steps to reduce the risk of accidents and injuries on the jobsite.

  2. Enhance productivity, no matter the job

Well-trained operators can run equipment more efficiently, leading to increased productivity on jobsites and less rework. While videos and manuals make a big difference when it comes to learning how to operate all the functions of today's heavy machinery, nothing beats spending time in the seat.

Take our Level 1 Operator Training held on John Deere's proving grounds in Sacaton, AZ, for example. There, participants spend three days learning the ins and outs of numerous machines from the operator seats of dozers, motor graders, excavators, articulated dump trucks, loaders, skid steer and compact track loaders, and backhoes. With our experts guiding them, attendees spend about half a day exploring the various machine families, advancing their knowledge and skills.

By the end of the training, operators should be able to safely and effectively perform basic operations utilizing all the key equipment features on each of the machines. Ultimately, this practice and reinforcement helps result in faster project completion and better use of resources.

  3. Reduce equipment downtime.

When it comes to earth-moving equipment, there are lots of moving parts — and we cover them all in our operator training sessions.

For more than 185 years, John Deere has designed equipment for maximum uptime — and that starts with proper equipment handling and maintenance. Well-trained operators can not only avoid misusing and damaging equipment, but they can also identify and address minor issues before they escalate.

As part of John Deere operator trainings, our product experts teach attendees how to conduct proper and thorough safety and service machine walkarounds, helping operators learn how to identify any issues before they may result in costly and time-consuming maintenance.

  4. Cut unnecessary costs.

Properly using equipment does much more than help maintain jobsite safety and reduce machine downtime. It also helps reduce operating costs. From wear and tear to fuel consumption, proper machine usage can make a huge difference — and it all begins with proper training for equipment operators.

Take compact track loaders, for example. Simply training operators to take wide turns on these machines — instead of counter rotating like on a skid steer — will help minimize track wear. Controlling slippage and regulating loads will not only reduce stress on the tracks but also help conserve fuel. Multiply seemingly small things like these by the number of machines in your fleet, and it adds up quicker than you may think.

  5. Yield higher-quality work.

We know that many companies and organizations in our industry don't have enough people on hand to complete their work. But these employers aren't just in search of trained operators — they need people who also have received the right level of training to get the work done safely, effectively, and efficiently.

Skilled, experienced operators can help you take the quality of your work to the next level. That's because well-trained operators are more adept at accurately and efficiently executing tasks, resulting in higher-quality work and improved project outcomes — which can enhance a contractor's reputation and lead to more business opportunities.

Top 10 of the Biggest Dozers in the World

Considered the first piece of heavy equipment ever made in the twentieth century, a bulldozer- a.k.a. tractor, or dozer, is a large earthmoving machine. It has a weight range usually between 18 and 100 metric tons, and it is used to clear land and material on large-scale construction and mining projects. Many manufacturers have developed iconic earthmovers that are being used today to complete prestigious projects across the world. A dozer can be used on construction sites to clear land, grade for roads and infrastructure, or on quarries and mines to haul large sums of ore and earth, and originally, on farms and agricultural lands. For those interested to buy bulldozers or just want to enrich their heavy machinery knowledge, here’s ten of the world’s biggest dozers ever made.

The 10 Biggest Dozers in the World

The biggest dozer in the world is the Acco Super Dozer, at a 183 metric tonnes operating weight. The dozer never really operated, though, and is now merely considered a historical piece of engineering.

Here’s a quick rundown of the top 10 biggest dozers ever made, in descending order:

1. Komatsu D575A:

At number one is the Komatsu D575A-3 SD crawler dozer. The “SD” stands for Super Dozer, and with 153 metric tonnes, it is indeed a super dozer. In fact, it is the largest Komatsu dozer ever built by the Japanese manufacturer. Since the Acco Super Dozer was never utilized for its purpose, a lot of people consider the Komatsu D575 to be the largest bulldozer ever made. Though still in production, this particular model can be found in the archival product list on Komatsu’s website, since it has only been custom built specifically for large-scale mining operations in Australia and elsewhere.

2. CAT D11:

The second runner up is Caterpillar’s D11- which is the largest CAT bulldozer in production right now. Al Marwan Machinery proudly owns and operates one of these earthmoving marvels, and it’s currently at work on Saudi Arabia’s NEOM mega-project. The 850 HP dozer comes with several blade types with a capacity up to 34.4 cubic meters. 124 metric tonnes makes it the biggest CAT bulldozer in the world.

3. Komatsu D475A:

This is the second to the largest Komatsu dozer, the D475A bulldozer. It boasts 112.6 metric tonnes of weight, coupled with a 1,040 HP diesel engine, making every push very much worth the money. This crawler dozer is in high demand for those looking to rent dozers for major project such as Arada’s Aljada development project.

4. Shantui SD90:

With 106 tonnes, this machine is the largest bulldozer made in China. The Shantui SD-90 crawler dozer has an electrifying 962 horsepower engine, making it a sought out fit for large scale mining projects in China and south-east Asia.

5. Fiat Allis FD50:

Usually written Fiatallis or Fiat-Allis, the company was actively producing heavy equipment until the late ’s, most notably dozers and loaders. The FD50 was the company’s largest bulldozer, standing at 80 metric tonnes. Throughout its years in business, the Fiatallis brand went into several joint ventures with global machinery manufacturers such as Hitachi and Case, before the brand got officially taken down off the market in 99.

6. CAT D10:

The second biggest Cat dozer in the world is the D10, with up to 77 tonnes operating weight. According to Wikipedia, D10s feature the highest drive system among their precedents. Mainly because of the elevated sprocket system, which was first applied in . It separated the suspension from the tractor's drive train, dramatically reducing stress on both and increasing their durability.

7. Liebherr PR776:

The large PR776 is the biggest Liebherr dozer in production today. Manufactured in Germany for the European market, the 6th generation Liebherr PR776 Litronic crawler dozer has an operating weight of 73 metric tonnes, and a 768 HP diesel engine. It can be fitted with a large carrydozer blade which has the capacity of 22 cubic meters.

8. CAT D9

Coming in strong as the third biggest CAT bulldozer in the world is the Caterpillar D9 crawler dozer. The dozer features either the CAT C18 ACERT (D9T) or the HEUI (D9R) diesel engines, topping an electrifying 452 horsepower. What makes this tractor a top choice for the construction industry is its blade options, from 13.5 to 16.5 m3. Al Marwan Machinery has the D9 GC and the D9R configurations available for for those looking to buy or rent dozers.

9. John Deere K:

Second to last on our list is the Deere K crawler dozer, which is the largest John Deere bulldozer ever built. Manufactured in the US for medium scale construction and agriculture projects, the 48-ton tractor features a Final Tier 4 diesel engine capable of outputting 350 horsepower.

10. CAT D8:

At 40 tons, CAT D8Ts are among the most popular dozers on the market when it comes to general earthmoving tasks on construction sites.
